Our natural leaf plates are made by Nepalese women artisans from underprivileged communities striving a better future for them and their family. We ensure to provide equal economic opportunities, fair wages and ethical working conditions to all the makers. OUR MISSION is to uplift the poor and disadvantages women by providing opportunities for them in developing independent and sustainable living. We also provide alternative financial motivation to villagers by giving thern opportunity to sell Sal tree leaves instead of wood from trees. This adds in preserving trees ana reducing deforestation, and keeping more pants in the earth for next generations and greener future.
The construction of our biodegradable plates is a traditional, natural and a simple process:
Gather fresh or slightly dried sal leaves from nearby forests or trees, making sure they are clean and free from damage.
Overlap 5 to 8 leaves and stitch them using thin bamboo sticks, small wooden pins, or food-grade thread to form a round plate-sized mat.
Dry the molded plates in the sun or in a drying chamber to ensure all moisture is removed and the plates become stiff and durable.
Wash the collected leaves gently with water to remove dust, dirt, and insects, then dry them naturally or with a cloth.
Place the stitched leaf mats into a metal mold or heat press machine to shape them into plates and bond the leaves firmly.
Trim the edges to give the plates a neat shape, inspect for any damage, and pack them carefully for storage or sale.
Since these plates are made entirety with leaves, they should be kept in a bag at room temperature when not in use This helps to increase its shelf-life. These compostable natural leaf plates help reduce the amount of pollution on the planet. They are suitable for backyard composting and can be used as a natural fertilizer. Place them on any household's backyard compost pile and you can expect the decomposition within 3 to 4 weeks.
